San Antonio museum expansion opens

Aug. 11, 2010

The McNay Art Museum in San Antonio reopened after the completion of a $33 million, 45,000-sf expansion named the Jane and Arthur Stieren Center for Exhibitions. With Jean-Paul Viguier, Paris, serving as the principal architect, the expansion is a two-story glass pavilion set into a grassy slope, with an all-glass façade. It also includes a seven-foot-thick glass-and-steel, multi-layered roof and cooling system, which allows the museum to filter and adjust natural light for different media.
