Kohl's opens LEED Gold photo studio in Milwaukee

Aug. 11, 2010

Kohl's Department Stores has opened a 100,000-sf photo studio in Milwaukee that will enable the retail giant to photograph nearly all its weekly circulars and e-commerce elements in-house. Designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, the building is the first of more than 80 green buildings Kohl's plans to open within the next few years. Sustainable features include rapidly renewable materials such as flooring made from cork and bamboo, a vegetated roof, photovoltaics, extensive daylighting, and native landscaping.

The studio includes 35 photo bays, a digital photo lab, a fully equipped carpentry shop, a 2,000-sf prop room, seven hair and make-up rooms, and rooftop shooting space for outdoor photography.
