Built to house one of the largest collections of Spanish art outside of Spain, the new Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University in Dallas has opened. Designed by the Chicago-based architecture firm Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge, with Dallas-based Austin Commercial as general contractor, the two-story, 66,000-sq.-ft. red brick collegiate Georgian building is six times larger than its predecessor. The free-standing structure doubles available exhibition space for the collection, which includes works by El Greco, Goya, Murillo, Ribera and Picasso, and features expanded facilities for research, educational and public programming and underground parking.
