McCarthy breaks ground for educational complex at UC Santa Barbara

McCarthy Building Companies' Newport Beach, Calif., office has commenced construction on the $82.8 million Education and Social Sciences Building Complex at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The three-building, 209,570-sf complex will house the film and television program, the education graduate school, and the College of Letters and Science. The 15,570-sf Carsey-Wolf Center for Film, Television, and New Media will include a 298-seat digital movie theater, production labs, animation rooms, and a sound stage. The new 97,300-sf Gevirtz Graduate School for Education building will have double the existing clinical space for one of the nation's leading autism centers. Expected completion is June 2009. Kallmann, McKinnell & Wood Architects is providing architectural services.
