Courtyard gets domed at Washington University

Aug. 11, 2010

What was once an outdoor courtyard at Washington University School of Law's Anheuser-Busch Hall in St. Louis has been transformed into an indoor, climate-controlled gathering and meeting space topped with a transparent glass canopy. The conversion was the centerpiece of an $8 million renovation project that included work over five floors of the 175,000-sf law building. The 6,050-sf courtyard was enclosed on all four sides by wings of the building but was open-air. Its new canopy is held in place by a two-piece, 60-ton steel support frame that connects to what was the exterior of the fourth floor. St. Louis-based Tarlton Corp. was construction manager.
