Condo tower is green with luxury

Aug. 11, 2010

The Visionaire is New York City's newest green residential tower. Designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli, New Haven, Conn., and developed by Albanese Development Corporation, Garden City, N.Y., the luxury building's sustainable features include a high-efficiency HVAC system that's expected to yield 35% energy savings over similar buildings, solar panels that handle 5% of the building's energy load, a 10,000-gallon cistern for storing rainwater, and a plan to purchase 35% of its energy from renewable sources. The 35-story, 251-unit glass and terra cotta tower in the Battery Park neighborhood offers both city and river views. The building has two rooftop gardens and an indoor swimming pool.
