A 93,000-sf, $45 million Library and Resource Center broke ground in Fontana, Calif. The two-story facility will house a collection of more than 141,000 books and publications, 7,500 reference items, 143 media resources, and 198 periodical subscriptions. The center, scheduled to be completed by 2008, will also include public meeting rooms, a 350-seat auditorium, a children's library, a "Friends of the Library" bookstore, a career center, literacy center, coffee bar, and more than 250 computers (some set for bilingual use). Los Angeles-based JCM group is the construction manager of the project. The Los Angeles office of RNL Design is the design architect, and the general contractor is Barnhart Inc. of San Diego.
