Native American themes throughout California resort

Aug. 11, 2010

As the design architect for the 422,000-sf Agua Caliente Casino, Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif., VOA Associates aimed to style the resort in honor of its owners: the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. The interior of the 16-story, $300 million center features décor that is rich with earth tones and natural colors, and the exterior design displays natural materials that harmonize it with the surrounding desert landscape. An elemental color palette runs throughout the resort, with tawny golds, deep reds, and browns paired with textural influences such as stacked sandstone, backlit onyx, and gleaming stone flooring.
