New cathedral for archdiocese

Ziegler Cooper Architects, Houston, was commissioned by Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to design the new cathedral that will become the ecclesiastical center for the archdiocese. The Co-Cathedral of The Sacred Heart seats 1,820 people with space for 200 additional chairs. Materials, which were shipped in from all over the world, include 8,000 cubic yards of concrete, 250 tons of steel, 73,000 sf of Indiana limestone, and 30,000 sf of marble.
