Power company goes green in China
Located in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China, the headquarters for the Fujian Provincial Electric and Power Company serves as a new symbol for the company and a new landmark for the city. The 598,800-sf, 31-story high-rise, which contains a 21-story communication tower shielded by two curtain walls, adds a distinctive shape to Fuzhou's skyline. However, designers at Bellevue, Wash.-based MulvannyG2 Architects worked to make the structure both eye-catching and sustainable. Green features include daylight maximization due to the use of transparent and translucent materials, an aluminum revolving ventilation system, and a myriad of courtyards, plazas, and roof gardens. The company is hoping that the sustainable design serves as an example to both customers and Fuzhou citizens.
