Making a good impression

Aug. 11, 2010

When the terrazzo floors of the operating rooms at Loma Linda (Calif.) University Medical Center needed to be replaced, the safety of patients and staff alike became a crucial factor. The director of engineering services, Leo Rein, had to search for flooring that was slip-resistant, hygienic and easy to maintain.

After Rein's team weighed its options, it chose to install Altro Impressionist 25 flooring in one of the operating rooms. The product's integral bacteriostat-a treatment that helps inhibit the growth of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria-and slip resistance were the determining factors. The team will be installing it in four other operating suites and their surrounding hallways.
