Southeast Michigan Finally Gets a New Hospital
Southfield, Mich.-based Barton Malow broke ground last month on a 200-bed, $224 million hospital at St. John Health's Providence Park campus in Novi, Mich. Designed by Seattle-based architect NBBJ, the facility will incorporate acuity-adaptable rooms that will allow patients to remain in one room throughout their stay, whether they're receiving intensive care, step-down, observation, or acute care. The hospital will also feature an emergency department designed to function as a level 1 trauma center, a dedicated pediatric unit, a neuroscience institute, an ear institute, and a women's services area. It is the first new hospital to be built in southeast Michigan in more than 20 years. The facility is scheduled to open in August 2008.
