A ceremonial groundbreaking was held on Abraham Lincoln's birthday last month for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Ill. Architect for the $115 million project is St. Louis-based Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum. Springfield-based Crawford Murphy & Tilley is associate architect responsible for construction administration. Construction bids on the project will be received this month. The four-story, 99,000-sq.-ft. library is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2002 and the 100,000-sq.-ft. museum is to be completed late the following year. The new facility will replace the existing library, which is located in the basement of the Old State Capitol.
