Data center designed to withstand seismic events

Aug. 11, 2010

Chicago-based architects Sheehan & Partners teamed up with San Francisco-based Paradigm Structural Engineers on the design of a 200,000-sf data center for Equinix, a Foster City, Calif.-based provider of network-neutral data center and interconnection services. Because the facility is being built in the earthquake-prone Bay Area, the state-of-the-art, four-story building is being constructed using a base-isolation system, which will allow the building to withstand a “maximum credible event”—the highest level seismic event anticipated.
