A glass bridge is under construction as part of an expansion of the Hualapai Ranch at the Grand Canyon West resort in Arizona. The skywalk will provide hair-raising views of the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River, more than 4,000 feet below. Designed by Lochsa Engineering of Las Vegas, the bridge will extend 70 feet from the edge of the canyon and have five-foot glass walls on all sides. The structure has been tested to withstand 100-mph winds in all directions and to support up to 71 million pounds. A visitor's center, restaurant, and special events buildings are being built near the skywalk, which will be completed in late 2006.
