Why yes, of course it is.

Correctional design exerts from Shive-Hattery and the Iowa Department of Corrections will demonstrate how at the upcoming BUILDINGChicago conference and expo, September 9-11 at the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza.

Their presentation, "Achieving LEED Gold for an Iowa Prison: A Unique Glimpse into the World of Sustainable Correctional Facilities Design" (Tuesday, September 10, 4:00-5:30 pm), will offer a unique opportunity to peer into the world of correctional design—in this case, a 150-year-old prison for which LEED Gold is being targeted.

Panelists Michael Morman and Ryan Larson of Shive-Hattery and Mickel Edwards of the Iowa Department of Corrections will discuss how to successfully integrate sustainability into such a project when the chief project concern is security. They will analyze the difficulties of working on a prison campus while juggling the demands of LEED, security design, design coordination, and construction, as well as the owner’s foresight in requiring the use of BIM from predesign into a six-sided virtual reality lab, through contractor-required integration and updating during construction.

This AIA CES class is one of more than 70 continuing education sessions offered at BUILDINGChicago. For more information on attending the show, visit: http://www.buildingchicagoexpo.com/.
