TD Bank in Fort Lauderdale may be first net-zero bank in U.S.

TD Bank says that solar panels at a branch location in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., have allowed the building to generate more energy than it uses. The LEED Platinum-certified branch at 665 N.W. 62nd Street is believed to be the first net-zero energy bank in the U.S.

TD Bank says that solar panels at a branch location in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., have allowed the building to generate more energy than it uses. The LEED Platinum-certified branch at 665 N.W. 62nd Street is believed to be the first net-zero energy bank in the U.S.

In the first year of monitoring, the bank used 106,814 kilowatt-hours of energy, while its 400 solar panels generated 111,185 kWh, meaning 4,371 kWh, or 3.8%, of solar-generated power was added to the Florida Power & Light power grid. The amount of power the bank added to the grid could power 4.5 average homes for a month.
