Top State Department official to give keynote on international water supply issues at the Emerging Technology Symposium

Assistant Secretary for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs for the U.S. State Department Kerri-Ann Jones will give the keynote address at the Third International Emerging Technology Symposium by IAPMO and the World Plumbing Council. Assistant Secretary for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs for the U.S. State Department Kerri-Ann Jones will give the keynote address at the Third International Emerging Technology Symposium by IAPMO and the World Plumbing Council. Jones oversees a new international water partnership addressing international water supply issues.

Reporting directly to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Jones was previouslyDirector of the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Office of International Science and Engineering (2002-2005). Her prior professional experience includes serving as the Director for the Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) for the state of Maine (2000-2002), and as Associate Director for National Security and International Affairs at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). She has also worked in management and technical positions with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The symposium will be held May 1-2 in Bethesda, Md. Among the topics covered will be:

Dwight Perkins is the Senior Director of Field Operations for the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) and orchestrates the code adoption efforts of 11 other IAPMO Field Service regions as well as directly working with the state code agencies in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Oregon. Mr. Perkins has more than 35 years experience in the plumbing industry starting as an Apprentice in Alaska moving through the ranks to become a Journeyman Plumber and Business Manager of with UA Local 262. Prior to joining IAPMO, Perkins served in the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly while worked as Deputy Commissioner for the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development. He is extremely familiar with the demands jurisdictions face on a daily basis and he is particularly well suited to address those needs.
