Steam boiler saves time, money for Tennessee chemical plant

Oct. 13, 2012

In 2009, in conjunction with Tennessee Tech University, Fujifilm Hunt Chemicals in Dayton, Tenn., conducted an energy-efficiency survey and determined that the plant’s steam-generation capabilities were long outdated. The company switched from two locomotive-style boilers to two EX-200 SGO dual-fuel units from Miura. Instead of running on two 450 hp boilers, it now runs on one 200 hp boiler, with a second on standby. The new boiler has shown savings of about 33% in natural gas costs, requires less fuel, and produces fewer emissions than the previous system. And startup time has been cut, from 20 minutes to five.
