Time for a copper facelift for Bradley University clock tower

Oct. 13, 2012

Constructed in 1897, Westlake Hall, at Bradley University, Peoria, Ill., was once the only building in the nation built specifically for horology. It seemed fitting that this academic hall meant for studying time was adorned with a timepiece of its own: a six-story clock tower with a copper dome. During a recent $150-million campuswide improvement project, the university turned to Campbellsville Industries to restore the copper dome, which is 11 feet across at its widest point. Seven hundred pounds of copper transformed the cornice, dome, and finial from a green patina to a shining copper finish.
