To help reinvigorate San Francisco’s downtown, 30,000 sf of public space is planned for the city’s waterfront area. Architect Craig W. Hartman of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Peter Walker of PWP Landscape Architecture are designing the parks, community recreation areas, street-level retail, and restaurant areas for the historically underutilized northeast waterfront. The project, which is being coordinated by San Francisco Waterfront Partners, will create both public space and parks as well as 40,000 sf of private recreational areas within a new fitness and outdoor aquatic center.
