Solar panels help Vancouver center earn Canada’s first LEED Platinum

Dec. 12, 2011

The Creekside Community Centre, a media and administrative facility for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C., was turned over to the local community after the Olympics. The 45,000-sf facility features a full-size gymnasium, fitness center, childcare center, restaurant, boating center and multi-purpose rooms. Designed by local firms Walter Francl Architecture and Nick Milkovich Architects, the building became Canada’s first LEED Platinum community center. Using 20,000-sf of Rheinzink 1.2 mm/18 gauge Reveal Panels, the Building Team was able to clad the façade with solar panels, which face the False Creek waterfront.
