Energy-recovery ventilation launches nursing home’s green initiative

Oct. 11, 2011

Completed in 2009, the Eddy Village Green at Cohoes, a skilled nursing care center in Cohoes, N.Y., has 16 ranch-style homes modeled after The Green House, a concept seeking to eliminate the institutional aesthetic of traditional nursing facilities.

To achieve energy goals, the Building Team of architecture+, AOW Associates, and SMRT chose Airxchange’s energy recovery wheel for integration in a 13-ton unitary HVAC unit. With the wheel, the nursing home’s heating and cooling system operates with outside-air ventilation 24 hours a day year-round. The system supplies 3,500 cfm of outside air to reduce energy use and costs.
