Constructed under contract to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the 1.27-million-sf Fort Belvoir (Va.) Community Hospital is part of the federal government’s Base Realignment and Closing Program to increase hospital and outpatient care to service members, their families, and veterans. The Building Team of HDR/Dewberry, Turner Construction, and Gilbane Building Co. have substantially completed the nine-story main hospital building and clinical buildings. The innovative facility includes 120 inpatient beds, a cancer center, operative services center, and diagnostic center. The hospital earned LEED Silver certification.
