Form follows function at Salvador Dali Museum in Florida

Sept. 12, 2011

Architecture at the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Fla., reflects the abstract artistry of Salvador Dali by incorporating Radius Track’s cold-formed steel framing to bring the building to life. Coined the Enigma, the museum features a geodesic glass structure resembling the movement of a wave. A 60-feet-tall glass dome with three-story staircase is modeled after the double helix, reflecting the artist’s fascination with DNA. For visitors, the elaborately curving steel and glass structures evoke the surrealist aesthetic of Dali’s work. Building Team members include architect HOK and construction manager The Beck Group.
