Martha’s Vineyard Hospital earns first LEED Gold hospital in the Bay State

Sept. 12, 2011

Achieving the first LEED Gold rating for a hospital in Massachusetts, Martha’s Vineyard Hospital’s green Replacement Hospital features two floors of efficient, centralized, state-of-the-art equipment and technology. The 90,000-sf facility was designed by Thomas, Miller & Partners and built by Columbia Construction Co. to provide sustainable medical and surgical services. More than 200 solar photovoltaic panels provide the hospital with 45 kW of power, while a rooftop healing garden functions as a wellness area for patients. Energy-efficiency measures help save more than 25% of energy utility costs, and more than 80% of construction waste was diverted from landfills.
