A hospital in Enumclaw, Wash., uses black oxide panels from Cleveland Black Oxide (CBO) as a decorative finish for the building’s interior. Kenco Construction of Seattle installed about 100 panels, each measuring about 17 feet. Used on walls and around doors in the hospital, the panels are blackened and finished with a light water-soluble oil to create a smooth appearance. Waxes can also be applied.
“CBO had the best resources and expertise,” Kenco Construction’s project engineer Krisjan Olsen said. “[The panels] give the architect an attractive option in metal cladding finishes when going for a sleek industrial or distressed look.”
