Wooden window frames withstand California sun

July 22, 2011
When constructing a pizza restaurant in Southern California, a Building Team from architects Zephyr Arch Inc. and contractor Josh Klein Construction chose Accoya wood to frame the exterior windows. Pizza Antica is located in an outdoor mall in Santa Monica, Calif., and is exposed daily to strong sunlight and ocean air. Most woods are at risk of fading and cracking in these conditions. But according the Accoya, their wood panels have low thermal conductivity and resilience to extreme temperatures to maintain the restaurant’s black-stained façade. Installed by Bart Udink Construction Inc., Huntington Beach, Calif., the wood comes from a durable and sustainable timber source and is manufactured using nontoxic treatment.
