World’s first zero carbon 5-star hotel doubles as Bali solar power plant
July 22, 2011
The Bali Net Zero Hotel Resort and Spa—designed by Christine Hadiningrat and Sauter Carbon Offset Design—is the world’s first zero carbon five-star hotel. The hotel provides 2.5 MW of electricity per day from a solar cell array installed on four floors of roof. Certified as a Carbon Offset Project, the hotel generates enough electricity during sunlight hours to power the hotel and the local community through the night, eliminating the need of a storage system. Profits from sales of the hotel-generated electricity to the community will be used to help generate power for local schools and public centers.
