Navy quickens construction with steel frame system
To meet both the project timeline and Department of Defense standards, contractor RQ Construction, Carlsbad, Calif., opted to use a steel framing system from ConXtech for the new lodge at the Coronado Naval Base in California. Gregory P. Luth and Associates, Santa Clara, Calif., engineered the system. The ConXR Bi-Axial Structural Steel Framing Technology has bi-axial Special Moment Frame connectors that eliminate the need for shear walls or braces. The connectors use lower-and-locking technology, which requires no onsite welding, so construction was streamlined: the 152,000-sf building’s frame was erected in just 25 days.
