Lab personnel find comfort in former Winchester gun factory

May 18, 2011

The former Winchester Repeating Arms Factory in New Haven, Conn., is the new home of PepsiCo’s Biology Innovation Research Laboratory. Local architecture firm Svigals + Partners renovated space inside the historic gun factory, rechristened the New Haven Science Park, to provide a “holistic” and sustainable design that reduces energy consumption and improves working conditions for employees. The lab occupies 3,528 sf within a six-story building and features daylighting and carefully planned aesthetics and art to create a more homelike atmosphere that aims to increase productivity.
