Water-saving fixtures used in Chinese developer’s LEED Platinum HQ

April 14, 2011

Sloan Valve’s water-free urinals and solar-powered faucets were installed at the Vanke Centre (left) in Shenzhen, China. The 1.3-million-sf mixed-use building, designed by Steven Holl Architects, is the flagship property of national real estate developer China Vanke Properties; the wing housing the firm’s headquarters earned LEED Platinum.

The flushless urinals were installed on standard drainage lines and use replaceable cartridges that last for 7,000 uses. The Solis-brand solar faucets (flow rate: 0.5gpm/1.9Lpm) derive their energy from both natural and artificial light sources to power the sensors for touchless operation.
