During its recent expansion, Piper High School in Kansas City, Kan., added both school spirit and functionality with the installation of a pirate mascot to a GKD Omega 1510 stainless steel woven mesh fabric façade. The Overland Park, Kan., office of DLR Group etched the pirate design into the mesh fabric, which was installed in two panels pulled taut by rods and custom eyebolts. The 520-sf façade provides the school entrance with low-maintenance sunshading during the day and creates a lantern effect for nighttime events.
