For 20 on Hawthorne, a Gerding Edlen Development project in Portland, Ore., designer GBD Architects opted for a CarMatrix system from Harding Steel. The system accommodates 29 cars in a space that would normally have room for only 10. It features three platforms that operate on a grid system—the grade level platform moves laterally, while the above- and below-grade levels move vertically. One space on grade-level is left open to allow access to cars on the other two levels. With a swipe of a magnetic card, residents can pick up their cars in less than 40 seconds. The project is seeking LEED Gold certification. Harding Steel Inc.
