Tight building envelope for Phoenix Children’s Hospital

Sept. 10, 2010

For the new Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Jerry Ackerman, senior project manager with Kitchell Corporation, was looking to minimize air and water infiltration. The general contractor conducted extensive tests of weatherization products before specifying DuPont Tyvek Commercial Wrap and various DuPont flashing products. The materials held up to wind loads of more than 160 mph and water offloads of five gal/hr/sf of wall space, while permitting less than 0.06 cubic feet per minute of air infiltration. DuPont also held on-site certified installer training for subcontractors from Sun Valley Masonry, KT Fabrication, and Kovach Metals. “The unmatched technical support was one of the main reasons we selected DuPont,” said Ackerman.
