One of the worst nightmares for a contractor is a weather-damaged site. Excessive rain and humidity can require costly and time-consuming tear-out of damaged materials on a site that has yet to raise a roof. Keith Jackson of Exquisite Builders should have been concerned about this when constructing Pier Park, a 900,000-sf retail and entertainment complex in Panama City, Fla. The area had experienced an unusually damp fall and early winter. The decision to use nearly one million sf of Georgia-Pacific DensGlass Gold exterior sheathing on the project, however, actually helped Exquisite finish the project ahead of schedule.
“It's so moisture- and mold-resistant that we can work in the rain, and once it's up, we don't have to worry about exposure,” says Jackson. “I can even leave the products outside at the site, so I'm always ready to go with the next building.”
