Zinc panels give municipal complex class, sense of place

Aug. 11, 2010

Approximately 10,000 sf of Rheinzink 0.7mm Pre-Weathered Blue Grey wall panels highlight a striking design for the two-story addition to the City of Beachwood, Ohio, Municipal Complex. Design architect Benny Chew specified the zinc cladding because it complemented the other exterior materials, including stone, and reflected the city's affluence and modern nature.

“At the same time, we wanted to create an earth-like feel,” said Chew, project designer and manager with City Architecture, Cleveland. “The zinc gets a nice patina that makes it more earth-bound rather than something a little bit too machine-like. Overall, the innovative mix of building materials creates a unique sense of place that is truly reflective of the city.”

The Rheinzink panels were fabricated by Riverside Group, Windsor, Ontario, and installed by Pharro Glass, Berea, Ohio. The general contractor was Dunlop & Johnston, Valley City, Ohio.
