For the Medical University of South Carolina's hospital replacement project—a joint venture by Brasfield & Gorrie, M.B. Kahn Construction, and Southern Management Group—the Building Team chose Georgia-Pacific Gypsum's paperless Dens products to avert mold and moisture threats. Fiberglass mats are used on the front and back of the gypsum panels, essentially removing paper—a food source for mold—from the product. The panels were used for interior walls, stair and elevator shaftwall assemblies, and exterior sheathing applications. Absorbing little moisture, the panels accelerated the building process because they could be installed in less-than-ideal weather conditions and before dry-in.
