Museum adds fire-rated, impact-resistant glass walls

Aug. 11, 2010

Along with new galleries, the Renzo Piano-designed Modern Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago includes an education center with floor-to-ceiling windows from Technical Glass Products. The center has activity rooms for visitors, orientation rooms, and boardrooms, and the TGP units, including Fireframes Aluminum Series fire-rated frames with wireless Pilkington Pyrostop glazing, open up the spaces to the rest of the museum while also blocking radiant heat transfer. The fire-tested window assembly offers fire resistance up to two hours and meets impact requirements of CPSC 16CFR 1201 Category I and/or Category II.
