Water chillers cool off Pearl Island

Aug. 11, 2010

Qatar Cool, the district cooling authority for the Pearl Island of Qatar in the Arabian Gulf, will use 46 water-cooled chiller units from Johnson Controls to supply 130,000 tons of chilled water to about 15,000 residential and commercial units. The eco-friendly chillers use non-ozone-depleting HFC-134a refrigerant. The chillers require half the electrical switch gear typically needed in such a plant. Johnson Controls also installed its Metasys building automation system to ensure the building operates at maximum efficiency.
