Fire alarm secures New Jersey university

Aug. 11, 2010

With its commitment to life safety and early fire detection, Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J., went beyond code requirements with its installation of new fire detection technology. It was imperative to install a fire alarm system that could quickly detect a fire emergency and direct emergency responders to the precise location of the incident—helping them respond quickly, safely, and better informed.

MSU specified Onyx FirstVision. The system has a graphical touch-screen interface for firefighters and emergency responders. Onyx FirstVision graphically displays critical information on the origin and spread of a fire, helping incident commanders quickly locate the emergency and make fast, well-informed decisions to extinguish the fire, reduce property loss, and save lives.

Making the choice to install FirstVision was a relatively easy one for Robert Ferrara, MSU's director of fire safety, because of the system's “great features.”
