Smart air barrier protects green home project

Aug. 11, 2010

The “Smart Home” is a 2,500-sf, fully functioning, modular green building constructed on the campus of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Among the Michelle Kaufman-designed building's many green features is a VaproShield high-performance, breathable membrane that resists liquid water while minimizing the possibility of mold, mildew, and rot. MKD Architects specified VaproShield's WallShield underlayment for the open-joint rainscreen design on the project. All VaproShield membranes are inert and can be recycled into their original bead form for reuse. VaproShield products contribute to achieving LEED points in both the Energy and Atmosphere and the Indoor Environmental Quality categories.
