When officials at the University of Colorado decided to restore and convert an 1866 brewery building in downtown Denver into a new student union for its Auraria campus, they knew they had their work cut out for them. In addition to dealing with leaky roofs, peeling paint, and crumbling masonry, the Building Team for the new Tivoli Student Union had to fix more than 260 historic windows that were warped and rotting. Local architect SlaterPaull Architects worked closely with historic window and door subcontractor Colorado Sash and Door to find suitable replacement windows for the 324,000-sf building. The team specified custom window units from Kolbe that matched the various dimensions, sizes, and profiles of the historic units. To meet the university's energy performance requirements, the windows were fitted with Kolbe's H°K LoE2 glass to reduce heat gain.
