Soaring skylight tops Marine Corps museum

Aug. 11, 2010

Denver-based Fentress Architects won a competition in 2001 to design the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Inspired by the well-known image of marines raising a flag at Iwo Jima, the architects designed a 210-foot-tall, stainless-steel-clad mast that protrudes through a large skylight. Naturalite Skylight Systems manufactured and installed the skylight, and Owatonna, Minn.-based Viracon supplied two primary glass make-ups, both using a low-e coating on an EverGreen tinted glass substrate.
