HVAC system helps earn LEED points

Aug. 11, 2010

The owners of the Gaia Napa Valley Hotel and Spa in American Canyon, Calif., wanted to achieve LEED Gold certification for their new hotel. To get the necessary mechanical credits, local architect Todd Jersey specified a Mitsubishi Electric City Multi R2-Series Variable Refrigerant Flow Zoning (VRFZ) system that would help earn essential LEED points. The inverter-driven variable frequency drive compressor provides highly responsive cooling and heating performance in each of the Gaia's 133 guest rooms. The Gaia's LEED commissioning report showed it received six of 10 available points for optimizing energy performance. The hotel did, indeed, achieve LEED Gold.
