The U.S. Green Building Council has integrated Convia, a smart building platform, into its new 75,000-sf headquarters in Washington, D.C. The fitout is expected to achieve LEED-CI Platinum status.

With a Convia-enabled systems design, the USGBC headquarters' power delivery and technology applications—including lighting, HVAC, security, occupancy and daylight harvesting sensors, security, and audio/visual—are integrated into a single, energy-efficient platform. This allows occupants to set up the lighting and socket power load of their individual cubicles and offices using Convia's Web-based interface.

Some 367 occupancy sensors are located throughout the building, and circuits not controlling computers are programmed to shut down when workstations are not occupied to ensure task lights, battery chargers, and other electrical devices are turned off. Timed power sweeps will ensure that savings are realized when the building is vacant.

Sustainable lighting firm Clanton & Associates of Boulder, Colo., did the lighting installation. GHT of Arlington, Va., was the MEP engineer.
