Hamilton College addition gets green ceiling

Aug. 11, 2010
Hamilton College, a small liberal arts school in Clinton, N.Y., is big on sustainability. As part of its commitment to environmental stewardship, the college installed rapidly renewable acoustical ceiling tiles in one of the classrooms of a new addition to the Kirner-Johnson Building, home to the college's social studies department. The latest addition to Armstrong's line of ceiling systems, Tierra features a substrate made from jute, a natural fiber that grows from seed to harvest in 90 days.

The ceiling has a high rapidly renewable content of 46% and is 100% recyclable at the end of its useful service life through the Armstrong Ceiling Recycling Program. Tierra also has a high post-consumer recycled content of 23%. The panels feature a noise reduction coefficient (NRC) of 0.85 and a light reflectance (LR) value of 0.88. Available in 2×2- and 2×4-foot lay-in panels.
