Design firm Callison expands international luxury retail practice in Asia and Middle East

August 11, 2010

July 8, 2009 – From the Harvey Nichols flagships in Indonesia and Dubai, to rolling out the North American Cole Haan brand in the Middle East, design firm Callison is working with a growing number of retail clients as they enter new markets across the globe.

News Facts:

• The expansion is driven by stable economic growth and increasing demand for luxury retail in emerging markets in the Middle East and Asia. While the Middle East economy slowed to 3.9 percent in 2008, the modest growth far outpaces the global growth rate of .9 percent (source: World Bank) and according to the Economist Intelligence Unit, the Asian economy is expected to keep growing by 6.5 percent in 2009.

• Callison’s international retail portfolio includes some of the world’s leading brands including Coach, David Yurman, Harrods and Pottery Barn Brands. Most recent projects include work for U.S.-based luxury accessories retailer Cole Haan, which worked with Callison to design its new flagship boutiques in New York, Dubai and Saudi Arabia and Harvey Nichols, which has worked with Callison to deliver world-class destination flagships in Jakarta, Indonesia and Dubai.

• Currently, Callison has more than 35 projects in various stages of design or development in China including 24 City, an evolutionary retail complex in Chengdu scheduled for completion in 2010, Yueda 889 in Shanghai opening September 2009 and The MIXc in Hangzhou, scheduled for completion in 2010. In the Middle East, the Landmark Group has retained Callison for work on a series of its Home Centres stores, a leading furniture and home ware retailer located throughout the GCC, Jordan and India.

Quote: Paula Stafford, Executive Vice President, Callison
“As more retailers go global, the ability to adapt in the international marketplace while tailoring the brand identity to regional and cultural preferences is critical. With experience delivering stores in more than 20 countries, we’ve developed local partnerships to help our clients navigate the regional jurisdictions and business practices to ensure a seamless delivery whether in Shanghai or Seattle.”
