CertainTeed leads gypsum board industry in Environmental Claim Validations through UL Environment

CertainTeed is the first manufacturer to complete the UL Environmental Claim Validation (ECV) process for its full line of gypsum products.

By CertainTeed | November 4, 2013

CertainTeed is the first manufacturer to complete the UL Environmental Claim Validation (ECV) process for its full line of gypsum products. Specifically, UL Environment provided third-party verification for environmental claims including Recycled Content, Regional Materials and Mold Resistance. Additionally, the company secured Permanent Formaldehyde Absorption Capacity validation for its industry-only AirRenew®, which features VOC-scavenging technology that helps improve indoor air quality. The independent, third-party validation process involved rigorous audits conducted at 13 manufacturing facilities across the U.S. and Canada.

“Our company is steadfast in its commitment to transparency and providing building and design professionals with sustainable, high-performance products to meet the strict environmental standards of today’s construction industry,” said Dave Engelhardt, president of CertainTeed Gypsum. “UL is world-renowned for its diligent product certification process, so it was paramount that our product environmental claims were validated through this organization.”

CertainTeed® gypsum building materials, which include Easi-Lite™, Diamondback® Tile Backer, GlasRoc® Sheathing as well as products containing the proprietary M2Tech® formula for mold and moisture resistance, are now listed in applicable categories on UL Environment’s Sustainable Products Database. The online tool allows users to identify sustainable products by product category, company name, product name or evaluation type.

“We have worked with the construction and building industry for decades and are proud to facilitate greater accessibility to environmental products and bring clarity to their claims in the marketplace,” said Sara Greenstein, president of UL Environment. “UL Environment offers tools to help tell a product’s story, and we are pleased to provide CertainTeed with a validation for its efforts to make its gypsum product line more sustainable.”

The validation process has been completed at all of CertainTeed Gypsum’s manufacturing facilities.
