CertainTeed Ceilings launches continuing education webinar series for architects, contractors

August 11, 2010

(Valley Forge, Pa.) – June 22, 2009 - Through a new, free webinar series, CertainTeed Corporation is sharing acoustical, building science and technical expertise about ceilings with architects, contractors and distributors across the country.

Consisting of 20 free webinars, the series focuses on important issues affecting ceiling design, appropriate ceiling product selection and installation.  It covers a variety of ceilings topics, including: acoustics and sound control; cloud-style ceiling design; moisture management; using sustainable design to create comfortable interior environments; fire safety; thermal control; air barriers; and LEED(R) and LEED for Schools(R) designs. Other webinars will focus on proper design and installation techniques for specific CertainTeed Ceilings products, such as Ecophon Focus ceiling panels, Gyptone ceiling panels and Ecophon Focus Wing.

“We noticed a gap in the availability of contemporary continuing education courses that incorporate building science concepts and proper installation into the product specification process,” says Robert Marshall, Technical Manager of CertainTeed Ceilings. “We are confident this series will serve as a valuable resource for building and design professionals, as well as distributors.”

Many of the webinars have building science themes, demonstrating how to use a systems approach to maximize the efficiency and sustainability of a structure. CertainTeed has become a thought leader in building science concepts, producing two DVDs on the topic — the award-winning “Commercial Building Science Concepts and Practices” and “The Art of Building Science,” which focuses on sustainable residential building practices.

“Green building and design is constantly evolving, and it’s important that the industry stay abreast of the changes in techniques and green building standards,” says Stan Gatland, Manager of Building Science Technology for CertainTeed Corporation. “This series of webinars provides helpful guidance in ceilings design and installation, as well as the growing sustainable design-influenced market of today.”

To maintain their American Institute of Architects (AIA) memberships, architects must complete a minimum of 18 Continuing Education Unit (CEU) courses per year, eight of which are required to be Health Safety Welfare (HSW) units. Four of the eight required HSW units must be Sustainable Design, a subset of HSW. Of the six architect webinars CertainTeed Ceilings is offering this year, all are HSW units, and three can be used for Sustainable Design credit as well.

The CertainTeed Ceilings webinar series began in May and continues through December 16. CertainTeed is sending invitations with the webinar schedule and login instructions to architects, specifiers, contractors and distributors who work with CertainTeed Ceilings products.
